Opening Up Zambia’s Western Corridor

By Pangaea Securities Team

Pangaea Securities is proud to announce its role as Financial Advisor to Barotse Highway Limited, the concessionaire responsible for the Concession Agreement signed on December 1, 2024. This agreement covers the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Maintain, and Transfer (DBFOMT) of the 371km Mutanda-Kaoma Road in Zambia’s North-Western and Western Provinces.

This milestone infrastructure project is set to transform Zambia’s western corridor, creating a strategic link to Walvis Bay in Namibia. Upon completion, this vital corridor will significantly enhance regional trade flows with key partners, including South Africa, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The project underlines Zambia’s potential as a critical regional trade hub by addressing inefficiencies in the current gravel road network and supporting essential sectors such as mining and logistics.

The Barotse Highway Limited Special Purpose Vehicle (BHL-SPV) will oversee the design, financing, construction, and operation of this road over a 25-year concession period. By upgrading and maintaining the Mutanda-Kaoma road to facilitate heavy-duty vehicle transit, the project ensures a robust infrastructure network vital for economic growth and regional integration.

Pangaea Securities extends heartfelt congratulations to all stakeholders who have contributed to this transformative initiative. We also recognize the collaborative efforts of Buks Haulage LimitedFirst Quantum Minerals ZambiaHotsheet PtyNyeleti Consulting (Pty) LtdHerbert Smith Freehills, and MAY & Company for their exceptional work.
