Friends With Benefits

These modern kids call it “friends with benefits”. In essence, you get to enjoy the benefit of a woman’s companionship without months long due diligence or extortionate KYC. You see each other when you can, don’t owe each other birthday gifts or good morning texts.
Quite a fascinating concept, this.
One that men these days must adopt if their mental health, finances, time, health and wellbeing are a priority.
Why do we want everybody to be everything to us? The same guy that you have a beer with doesn’t have to be the one that brings his wife and children along for a visit to your home.
There are friends we drink a wine with at home and friends we drink beer and watch football with at a pub. The conversations are different and you know this because wine brings out the fake intellectual in you while beer brings out the true hooligan within.
And that’s alright. It’s not wrong to know the benefits that come with certain friends.
Some introduce us to their network of businessmen, leaders and professionals. Others introduce us to their latest baby mama.
Feel free to pick the benefits that matter the most to you, sometimes over the friendships you have. Be ruthless about your growth or affable about your regression.
Some friends are good for having a conversation about geo-politics and where the financial markets are tilting in the mid to long term. Others are always asking if have a K150 because they don’t have food at home.
Some fellas are great as Facebook or Instagram friends. They post, you laugh or comment but God forbid you have their energy around you in real, analogue life. Pick your friends and benefits.
We have to be honest with each other. Some friends are a solar powered milking machine of your resources, spiritual energy and time from the things that matter.
Others bring you insights, shared vision, growth paths and a sneak peek into what happens when a man gets his life together. The type of friend that offers you the benefit of being a solid surity in case you insult the Republican President.
Modern man will say people are fake because he has become too sensitive. Understand that life is now highly transactional. People want you around them either for growth or gossip, fun or focus, drinks or deals.
There’s nothing wrong with that. Some friends give us deep conversations, business ideas and can stand in as fathers to our children.
And that there are others whose sole purpose is to have a drink and laugh with. Because that, too, is the benefit of having them as a friend.
