ESG Pontifications
By Mahongo Chilembo & Tshepo Magagane
ESG Pontifications – not about “child labour” – it is about Social, which is Driven by Governance…
…then the Environment will be taken care of.
When you drive from Mansa to the mine, you can see very little economic activity!
This will be a Large Scale Mine that has done the Exploration and Development in a classic main miner approach.
Where do these young women get employment from; how do they get to earn money, how do they develop themselves?
Dr Mulenga is already making a difference to the lives of people in Luapula Province in Zambia.
The Luongo mine should be used as a catalyst for large scale mining to develop the province.
Oh, then you have a Solar + PV project that can be catalysed by this mine – in the conversation I totally forgot about the community until the mine owner stopped to speak to the local headmaster “the smile when he heard that power can be brought to them by end 2025”!
And I detest romanticising “Poverty” – but how the locals live with nature is a template to be used!
Oh, finally you can then have a Carbon Credits story as the entire mining license of 243kms is in this fantastic forest area!
ESG – not some pontifications – real tangibles that are based on how the community benefits from the mine!
