Insights From Knowing 0.5% of the Global Billionaires
Co-Founder and Managing Partner at Harlem Capital
🧵There are ~3,000 Billionaires globally and I’ve gotten to know 16 of them
8 of them are investors in Harlem Capital and 8 of them I know personally. Here’s what I’ve learned from knowing 0.5% of the Billionaires
1) They rarely ever stop working
Every single one—ranging in age from their 40s to 80s—still works relentlessly. They go to the office, hop on planes, and work well over 40 hours a week. Why? They love what they do. Even in “retirement,” they stay busy with foundations or pursuing new passions.
2) Their networth is concentrated, diversification is not how you generate billions
Diversification doesn’t create billions—it’s focus that gets you there.
Many of them went all in on one thing, often risking it all. Each one remembers the inflection points that changed their lives—and they’re acutely aware of how quickly things can change.
3) They are top 1% on communication
Every billionaire I know responds to emails and texts within hours—or at most, days. And here’s the kicker: they do it personally. Not their assistants, them. Because they understand relationships are their most valuable currency.
4) They are more willing to give up their time then you would expect
I often will go over 15-30 minutes on calls or meetings when I meet with them. But I often hop off calls within a few minutes of the scheduled time. It’s a reminder to slow down and focus on the person in front of you, rather than rushing to the next thing.
5) They have very clear focus areas
Billionaires can do anything, but they deliberately choose to do less. Their time is spent on a few key areas: the moneymaker, family, travel, and hobbies. They know what truly matters—and they double down on it.
6) Their success is a result of meticulous habits
In a nutshell: They stay 100% focused on a few passionate things, while constantly surrounding themselves with the smartest people.
